MOGADISHU, 6 October 2026 A team of doctors from India and the United Arab Emirates began providing medical consultations in Mogadishu on Monday after arriving through Aster Hospital's referral centre.
The specialists were welcomed at a ceremony in Mogadishu on October 5, as Aster expands its healthcare operations in the Somali capital.
The visiting team includes Dr. Gokulakrishnan P J, Head of the Urology Department at Aster Whitefield in Bangalore, who specialises in urological cancers, robotic surgery, kidney transplantation, and treatment of kidney stones and prostate conditions.
Dr. Vishwajeeth K Pai, a Medical Oncologist, specialises in breast cancer, gynaecological cancers and urological cancers.
Dr. Sudeep Kadimpati is an Orthopaedic specialist with more than 13 years of experience, with expertise in knee and hip replacement, robotic surgery and sports injuries.

Dr. Chelladurai Pandian Hariharan is a Neurosurgeon with 15 years of experience, whose areas of practice include brain tumours, spinal disorders, stroke and head injuries.
The team also includes specialists from Conceive Fertility Hospital, which focuses on infertility treatment and in-vitro fertilisation (IVF), with centres in Dubai and Sharjah.
The doctors were brought to Somalia through the Aster Hospital Referral Center, which operates in Somalia and facilitates medical referrals and travel to Aster hospitals and healthcare facilities across India and the Gulf region.
The initiative is intended to allow patients in Somalia to consult specialists locally, including patients who have previously travelled abroad for treatment and surgery, giving them an opportunity to meet and follow up with the doctors in Mogadishu.
