Kenya, June 29, 2026 — I&M Group PLC has announced the appointment of Abdi Mohamed as Chief Executive Officer of I&M Bank Limited, Kenya, subject to regulatory approval by the Central Bank of Kenya.
Mr. Mohamed joins I&M Bank from Absa Bank Kenya PLC, where he served as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director.
He brings over three decades of leadership experience in the financial services sector, spanning retail and corporate banking, operations, risk management, digital transformation, and strategic leadership across multiple African markets.
In its official notice, the Board stated: “The Board of I&M Group PLC is pleased to announce the appointment of Abdi Mohamed as the Chief Executive Officer of I&M Bank Limited. His appointment remains subject to the approval of the Central Bank of Kenya.”
The statement further highlighted his credentials: “He brings over 30 years of leadership experience in banking and financial services across retail and corporate banking, operations, risk management, digital transformation and strategic leadership across multiple geographies within Africa.”

Expressing confidence in his leadership, the Board added: “The Board is confident that Mr. Mohamed's extensive experience, strategic leadership and deep understanding of the financial services sector will guide the Bank as it embarks on its next phase of growth and transformation.”
During the transition period, Kihara Maina will continue to serve in a dual role as Interim Chief Executive Officer of I&M Bank Kenya and Regional CEO of I&M Group until the regulatory approval process is concluded.The Board concluded: “The Board is pleased to welcome Mr. Abdi Mohamed to I&M Bank and wishes him the very best in his role.”
This appointment comes at a pivotal moment for I&M Bank, which has been expanding its footprint in East Africa and investing heavily in digital banking solutions.
