Mogadishu (Dawan Africa) – Hormuud Telecom and Save the Children Somalia have signed a formal partnership agreement focused on improving the lives of Somali children and families through the integration of telecommunications technology and humanitarian programming.
The agreement was signed during a joint event held in Mogadishu today, attended by senior representatives from both organizations and government officials, including Somalia’s Minister of Planning, Investment, and National Economic Development, Mahmoud Abdirahman (Beenebeene).
“This partnership brings together two dedicated organizations committed to expanding humanitarian and development efforts across our communities. We are confident that through collaboration, we will achieve lasting impact and hope for a better future,” said Ahmed Mohamud Yusuf, Chairman of Hormuud Telecom.
Save the Children Somalia, which has operated in the country for over 74 years, said the partnership will strengthen service delivery in education, health, child protection, and youth empowerment.
“By bringing together the expertise of Save the Children and Hormuud, I am confident we can create meaningful change. This partnership will help us strengthen and expand the vital services we provide for Somali children,” said Mohamud Mohamed Hassan, Country Director of Save the Children Somalia.
According to Save the Children, the partnership will focus on four key objectives:
1. Promoting and protecting children’s rights across Somalia
2. Improving emergency communication systems to better respond to crises affecting children and families

Also present at the event was Somalia’s Minister of Planning, Investment, and National Economic Development, Mahmoud Abdirahman (Beenebeene), who acknowledged Hormuud Salaam Foundation’s previous support to vulnerable communities, including the donation of 10,000 shelters to displaced families.
“Hormuud Telecom, especially through the Hormuud Salaam Foundation and Salaam Somali Bank, continues to support the most vulnerable with relief and development efforts,” the Minister stated.
Hormuud Telecom, through its foundation and affiliated Salaam Somali Bank, has previously supported community projects including school sponsorships, health campaigns, and emergency aid during drought and flood responses.
Save the Children has also led major emergency interventions, such as nutrition services during the 2022 drought and protection support in flood-affected regions in southern and central Somalia.
The new agreement is expected to pave the way for deeper cooperation between Somalia’s private sector and international aid agencies in strengthening child-focused development efforts.
