Somalia, 19 April 2026 Hirshabelle State President Ali Hussein Guudlaawe ordered the regional cabinet to intensify preparations for the implementation of one person, one vote elections, the presidency said in a statement.

The orders come after the National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (NIEBC) Thursday said Hirshabelle elections will be held on May 13.
The commission said preparations are at an advanced stage, including the completion of voter registration, distribution of identification cards, designation of polling stations and training of temporary election staff.
The president called on the public to actively participate in the electoral process and encouraged citizens to play a visible role.
