JOWHAR, 19 October 2026 — Hirshabelle State President Ali Abdullahi Hussein (Ali Gudlawe) has dismissed Hiran Regional Governor Mohamed Hussein Mohamed ‘Arab’ and appointed Muse Salad Weheliye in his place.
The decision is based on Article 51 of the Hirshabelle State Constitution, according to a decree. The president said a change in leadership of the Hiran regional administration was necessary, following a recommendation by the Hirshabelle Minister of Interior and Local Government.
Mohamed Arab was appointed governor on 20 October 2025, after the dismissal of Muse Salad Weheliye, who left office at the time amid a dispute with the region’s top leadership.
The change comes as Beletweyne, the capital of Hiran region, has seen disputes over one-person one-vote elections, with some local political actors opposing the electoral model.
The new governor is expected to take office in the coming days and faces challenges including stabilizing the region’s political situation.
