MOGADISHU, 21 October 2026 - Somalia’s National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has announced the candidates contesting leadership positions in the Hirshabelle State House of Representatives.
In a statement on Wednesday the commission listed two candidates for the position of Speaker and one candidate each for the first and second deputy speaker positions.
The candidates for Speaker are Abdihakim Luqman Haji Mohamed and Mohamed Ahmed Yusuf Issa.
Abdirahman Abdi Idow Kheyre is the sole candidate for First Deputy Speaker, while Jama Ali Mahmoud Mohamed is contesting the position of Second Deputy Speaker.
The commission said the election would be conducted in accordance with the established timetable, procedures and regulations governing the selection of the Hirshabelle parliamentary leadership.
The announcement outlines the candidates for the three leadership positions. The commission’s statement did not specify the date on which the election would take place.
