Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-Himilo Qaran, a political party led by former Somali President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, has publicly supported Jubaland State’s move to establish its own independent electoral and boundaries commission.
The party referenced Article 120 of Somalia's provisional constitution, emphasizing that the authority to establish legislative and executive institutions within federal member states lies solely with the regional states themselves.
In a statement, Himilo Qaran criticized the Federal Government of Somalia's approach towards Jubaland, describing it as a "forceful and legally unfounded intervention" in regional affairs. "The party stands firmly against any attempt to coerce federal member states into submission without legal basis," the statement read.
This declaration of support follows Jubaland's appointment of a seven-member electoral commission, a move swiftly rejected by the federal government. Himilo Qaran underscored its commitment to back any efforts that resist political encroachment and uphold Somalia’s constitutional autonomy for federal states.
