Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-The IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Centre (ICPAC) has on Tuesday issued a weather forecast for the period of April 23 to April 30, 2024, predicting heavy rainfall across several parts of the Greater Horn of Africa. Somalia, alongside western and northern Kenya, north-eastern Uganda, and southern Ethiopia, is expected to experience significant precipitation.
Specifically, the forecast indicates that southern and north-western Somalia will receive moderate rainfall ranging from 50 to 200mm. This comes as temperatures across the region are predicted to be warmer than average, increasing the potential for heat stress in areas including eastern Kenya and central to southern Somalia.
The anticipated rainfall is crucial for Somalia, affecting both agricultural activities and the overall socio-economic landscape in the region. The forecast also highlights variable rainfall distribution across the Horn of Africa, with some areas expecting dry conditions while others prepare for substantial downpours.
