Somalia, 14 may 2026 – President Hassan Sheikh's Justice and Solidarity Party won a majority in the South West State council election, securing 148 of the 297 seats.
Electoral commission chairman, Abdikarim Ahmed Hassan, announced that JSP received 67,088 of the 127,018 valid votes cast, or 52.82%.
Horumar iyo Midnimo Qaran was second garnering 46 seats with 18,550 votes representing 14.60%. Karaama finished third, securing 20 seats with 14,769 votes, or 11.63%.

Thirty-two political parties competed in the election, with 132,430 people casting their ballots. Of those, 127,018 votes were valid and 5,412 were spoiled, nearly 4%. The parties competed for 297 local council seats, also known as district parliament seats.
Parties that received votes but did not win any seat include Democratic Somalia, Public Interest, National Light, Justice and Salvation, People’s Unity, National Ambition and Governance, E-Socod, National Democratic/Education, and Prosperity.
The others are: Somali Good Governance, Somali Workers, New Generation, Public Interest, National Champion, Social Salvation, Somali Movement, National Value, and Elite Leaders.
