Kenya, July 3, 2026 - The government has released KSh4.4 billion to settle verified outstanding hospital claims owed to healthcare facilities by the defunct National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).
In a notice on Friday, the Social Health Authority (SHA) CEO Mercy Mwangani confirmed that the funds shall be used to pay verified NHIF claims of KSh10 million and below.
Eligible healthcare facilities will be required to sign agreements that will confirm that their NHIF claims have been fully settled before they receive the payments, according to Mwangangi.
SHA has deployed a team to all county offices to facilitate the sign-off exercise for the seamless payment of the facilities. The sign-off process is expected to pave the way for the release of payments by July 24.
“Eligible healthcare facilities are requested to attend the exercise in their respective regions and complete the required documentation to facilitate payment,” the authority stated.
“The list of eligible healthcare facilities is available on the SHA website at www.sha.go.ke and at all SHA County Offices. Below is a regional schedule indicating the dates and venues for the sign-off exercise,” it added.
The sign-off process is scheduled between July 6 and July 24 and is expected to be conducted in eight regions.
