Kenya, August 04, 2026 - A German delegation is set to visit Kenya in September to explore investment opportunities in the country’s textile and horticulture sectors, as the two nations deepen trade and investment ties.
The Ministry of Trade confirmed on Tuesday that the delegation will consist of German supermarket chains and wholesalers, who will hold engagements with close to 30 Kenyan horticultural companies.
This was revealed during a meeting between the Deputy Head of Mission at the German Embassy in Nairobi, Konrad Lax, and the Trade Principal Secretary, Regina Ombam.
The meeting focused on the Green Investment, Business and Trade (GIBT) Programme, a flagship EU–Kenya trade and investment initiative.
“Konrad Lax underscored the programme’s role in attracting European investment to drive local value addition and industrialization while reducing reliance on raw material exports,” the Ministry stated.
“The Principal Secretary reaffirmed that following the launch of the EU–Kenya Partnership Strategy, the State Department was in the process of conducting a comprehensive dissemination exercise to guide stakeholders on implementation,” it added.
PS Ombam maintained that the government is in the process of establishing the necessary committee, reinforcing export readiness as well as exploring the untapped trade and investment opportunities between the two countries.
The announcement comes barely a week after another delegation from the Zimbabwe Military Staff College visited the State Department for Trade to benchmark Kenya’s trade frameworks and deepen its understanding of the important link between trade, economic development and regional security.
PS Ombam emphasized that strong and inclusive trade systems not only drive economic growth but also enhance livelihoods and reduce the socio-economic challenges that can threaten peace and security.
Ombam also noted that knowledge-sharing and peer-learning among African institutions are key to strengthening regional integration, fostering closer cooperation and unlocking the continent’s economic potential.
“Led by Col. William Mangwiro, the delegation paid a courtesy call on the Principal Secretary for Trade, Regina Ombam, who highlighted the transformative role of trade in improving people’s lives. She noted that expanding trade creates jobs, reduces poverty and lays a strong foundation for lasting peace and stability,” the Ministry of Trade stated.
