22 April 2026 - Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has said the alleged taxi driver shooter is on the run and police are in hot pursuit to arrest him.
Speaking in the Senate, the CS said he was informed about the police officer’s alleged shooting and killing of a civilian at Garissa road block, calling it unfortunate.
“The report I have is that, that particular police officer is on the run and DCI officers at the county are currently pursuing him and he should be arrested anytime from now,” the CS told senators.
The CS who was responding to a question from Garissa Senator Abdul Haji said Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has taken over the case to take up next legal actions.
“As soon as the suspect is arrested we will work with IPOA and the suspect will take all other necessary steps that will follow,” he added.
While raising the matter at the senate, senator Haji noted that the police brutality has become a matter of national concern particularly in marginalised areas where public confidence in police is eroding.
“I would like the CS to inform us on the status of investigation if any have taken place, to my understanding the alleged shooter is on the run could the CS inform if he has been arrested,” asked Haji.
