Kenya, 19 August 2026 - Garissa Senator and gubernatorial aspirant Abdul Haji has thrown his weight behind President William Ruto’s re-election bid, saying the President has done significant work to uplift marginalized communities and improve their access to development.
Speaking in Garissa town during a meeting of Rer Kassin of larger Aulihan Clan, Haji said President Ruto has done a lot for the people of North Eastern region and for that matter, the people will fully support him.
“We have decided that this time, in 2027 we will support President William Ruto re-election because he has done a lot for marginalized communities and the Northeastern region,” he said.
The senator said political leaders in the region have decided to stand with President William Ruto’s second term bid, urging locals to vote for him.
The Garissa Gubernatorial hopeful also called for the residents who are yet to take up the voter’s card to ensure they are registered as voters to boast their numbers.
By having more numbers in the region, the senator said they will have a voice nationally noting that if elected he will unite the county and work to transform the county.
The senator who has been meeting different sub-clans of his political rival Mohamed Shidiye said both the Samawathal and Aulihan have a history together.
He noted that he will respect and work with whoever the Aulihan council of elders will bring to be his running mate.
“We are making history for these two alliances, I know that there are several people who are looking for the deputy Governor seat and they are waiting for the verdict from the geet (Council of elders) . We will respect the decision of elders whoever they propose,” he said.

Senator Haji promised not to follow mistakes from his predecessors that were pointed out by some of the speakers including sacking staff of the county.
He said he will not sack anyone but ensure every staff work for the county diligently noting that he will not entertain anyone absconding duty.
“We will not allow anyone to take up salary but they do not do any work for the county, those who are working will continue to and we will try and add others,” he said.
The meeting was also attended by Dadaab member of parliament Farah Maalim and Former Lagdera Mp Mohamed Hire and several ward representatives, they all noted that they will fully support Haji for the gubernatorial seat.
Dadaab member of parliament Farah Maalim said they will rally support for Haji as the next Garissa Governor insisting that he will spearhead a deal with his Samawathal counterparts who are also seeking the same seat.
The senator was also accompanied by Deputy Governor Abdi Dagane and some other county officials.
