20 April 2026 - Garissa Gubernatorial aspirant Abdiqani Dubat Fidow has firmly declared that he will not step down from his quest to become Garissa Governor.
Speaking in Garissa town, Fidow dismissed ongoing speculation about his candidacy, saying he will be on the ballot and won't step down in favour of anybody.
He said since he declared his bid for Garissa’s top seat he had tried hard to unite other candidates from his clan but all efforts have failed.
Fidow, a former PS, said his rivals, instead of talking to him, have tried all efforts to undermine him with chest thumping as well as priding themselves with wealth.
“Let them continue with the rumours. I was endorsed by the Sultan of Abduwaq and the best thing they would have done is approach me in a brotherhood way,” he said.
Fidow, the current presidential advisor on economics, is garnering support from the larger Abduwak clan for the gubernatorial seat.

Ali Korane, who was the governor between 2013 and 2017, has also declared his intention for a second term.
Fidow has the backing of former Fafi MP Abdikarim Osman, who stated that their community would give full support to his bid, noting that he has the expertise and knowledge to run the county.
The former lawmaker further noted that his clansmen’s political ambitions are no different from those pursuing positions in the governorship.
The developments signal intensifying political alignments and rivalries as the region gears up for the 2027 elections.
