BAKAU, Gambia, September 26, 2026 Gambia beat Somalia 2-1 in their opening Group C match of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on Friday after substitute Muhammed Badamosi scored an 83rd-minute winner at Independence Stadium.
Ebrima Colley put Gambia ahead from the penalty spot in the 18th minute. Bilal Njie equalised for Somalia from close range following a corner in the 72nd, before Badamosi headed in Suleiman Camara’s cross to secure the win.

Somalia next faces Côte d’Ivoire on September 29, while Gambia travels to Ghana. Both matches are in Group C, whose teams play six qualifiers each. The top two teams in the group will advance to the finals.
The 2027 Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled for June 19 to July 17 and will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. Forty-eight teams are competing in the group qualifiers for places at the 24-team finals.
