Kenya, 26 July 2026 - Former Deputy President and Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua on Sunday intensified his push to consolidate support in the Mt Kenya region, declaring that Kenyans are determined to vote out President William Ruto's administration in the 2027 General Election.
Addressing a series of political rallies in South Imenti and Imenti Central constituencies in Meru County after attending a church service, Gachagua accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of failing to address the country's economic challenges and ignoring the concerns of ordinary citizens.
He told supporters that residents were demanding better returns for tea and coffee farmers, accountability in government and an administration that listens to wananchi.
"You are not a threat to this country. You are citizens determined to reclaim your freedom and secure better prices for your tea and coffee," Gachagua told supporters at Kinoro in Igoji West, South Imenti.
The former Deputy President claimed the current administration had failed to answer key questions on governance, corruption and the high cost of living, insisting that the 2027 General Election would offer Kenyans an opportunity to chart a new political direction.
He expressed confidence that the Opposition would defeat President Ruto's Kenya Kwanza coalition, saying August 10, 2027, remained firmly in the minds of millions of Kenyans seeking political change.

Gachagua also thanked residents of Mikumbune in South Imenti for what he described as their unwavering support for the Opposition's "liberation movement," promising that the coalition would not betray the trust placed in it.
At Githongo Shopping Centre in Imenti Central, after attending Holy Mass at St. Teresa Catholic Church, the DCP leader said the Opposition's mission was to unite Kenyans around a common agenda of restoring accountable leadership and rebuilding public confidence in government.
He said the coalition was engaging citizens across the country to build support for a government that responds to the needs and aspirations of the people.
The Meru tour is part of Gachagua's sustained campaign to strengthen the Opposition's presence in the Mt Kenya region ahead of the 2027 General Election, where he has been seeking to consolidate support against President Ruto and the ruling Kenya Kwanza alliance.
