Kenya, 1 June 2026 - President William Ruto on Monday arrived at the newly built Wajir Stadium to preside over the 63rd Madaraka Day national event hosted in Wajir County.
The President left the Wajir State Lodge where he had spent the night with full outriders to the stadium which was full to the brim with not only locals from Wajir town but also from different parts of Northern Kenya and across the country.
The Head of State who arrived at 8:44am is presiding over the Madaraka Day which has been described as historic to be held in Northern Kenya that has been marginalised for decades by successive government.
Hundreds of locals started streaming to the stadium as early as 3am in the morning with heavy security presence in and outside the stadium, hundreds of police and security agencies from different categories were stationed in different places with the town.
Others came immediately after morning prayers with all waving the Kenyan flag.
The roads where the President used to access the stadium were equally cleared with police giving traffic alternative routes.
President Ruto, who is keen to secure his second term in office, has been making inroads to North Eastern Kenya, saying never again will the region be left behind in terms development.

While speaking in Habaswein on Sunday, President Ruto affirmed his commitment to invest in the region to ensure they are not only developed but also at per with other parts of the country.
The President who also announced an affirmative action to recruit at 100 teachers to every constituency to help in fill the gap left by teachers from other parts of the country who have left the region over insecurity, said his administration will give locals priority to teach their children.
Today the President is expected to announce more goodies to the region. In attendance are hundreds of senior Government security circles, Cabinet Secretaries, diplomats, members of parliament among other dignitaries.
