8 June 2026 - Four ladies were on Monday arraigned at Garissa over robbery, abduction and sexual related charges, but they did not take plea.
Garissa resident Magistrate Rachael Ng’ang’a ruled that the three of the ladies Ayan Ahmed, 23, Fartun Ahmed, 19, Ifrah Abdi,21, should be detained at Iftin Police station for seven days.
The fourth suspect, the resident magistrate said, should be taken to a children's centre and her age to be determined.
The investigating officer attached to Iftin Police Station told the court that he needs seven days to complete his investigation saying he is yet to record a statement from the victim whom he said is being monitored.
He also said he is yet to take statements of witnesses hence requested for more days to hold the suspects
“The four suspects were arrested on Saturday and we believe they are flight risk and might also interfere with the ongoing investigation. We request the court to hold them for seven days,” the investigating officer said.

The victim, the investigating officer said, is still in hospital being monitored by medics and there are more suspects who are at large.
According to victim’s family members, the 23-year-old girl only identified as MDG was forcefully bundled into a Toyota Probox before she was taken to four men in an isolated area, who allegedly raped her.
The ladies allegedly forced the the victim in a dramatic event at the centre of Garissa town and when it attracted the attention of locals, they said she was a relative who had a mental problem and they were taking her home.
“While undergoing treatment at Garissa Referral Hospital she identified one of the suspects who happened to be at the hospital and she also led to the arrest of others,” said one of the relatives of the victims who sought anonymity.
