May 12, 2026 - Former Lagdera Member of Parliament Mohamed Muktar Shidiye has declared that he will be on the ballot in the 2027 General Election, dismissing claims that he has shelved his political ambitions.
Speaking in Garissa during a wedding ceremony, the former Botswana ambassador said speculation circulating on social media suggesting he had either been paid off or had abandoned his bid for Garissa governor was false.
He also dismissed claims that he plans to vie for the Senate seat instead of the gubernatorial position. “My name will be on the ballot paper come 2027 General Elections. People should stop propaganda and lies. Everyone should look for his votes and don't concentrate too much on my politics,” Shidiye said while responding to his political rivals.
So far, Garissa Senator Abdul Haji, former Governor Ali Korane, former Principal Secretary Abdi Dubat and Moulid Shurie are among those who have declared interest in succeeding Governor Nathif Jama.
Political players have already begun building alliances and seeking endorsements from local elders ahead of the 2027 elections.

There had been speculation that the former Lagdera MP could shift his focus to the Senate race, effectively abandoning his gubernatorial ambitions , claims he now describes as gossip and political propaganda.
Shidiye urged his rivals to campaign peacefully and avoid incitement, saying he intends to directly engage voters across the county.
“The voters are the same and have the same value. We need to look for these votes in peace, and I will go everywhere to meet people and ask for their support,” he added.
The former envoy also said the era of “boardroom politics and brokerage” is over, insisting that his campaign will focus on grassroots mobilisation and direct community engagement.
