MOGADISHU, 5 October 2026 - The EU-Somalia Business Forum 2026 opened in Mogadishu on Monday, aiming to strengthen investment, develop the private sector and connect Somali businesses with European investors and companies.
The forum, held under the theme “#InvestInSomalia: Unlocking Markets with High Investment Potential,” is focusing on investment opportunities in Somalia, trade development, market connectivity and access to financing to support private-sector growth.
The opening ceremony was attended by the European Union Ambassador to Somalia, László Eduárd Máthé; Somalia’s Minister of Planning, Investment and Economic Development, Mahmoud Abdirahman Sheikh Farah; Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Mohamed Abdi Hayir; and Minister of Commerce and Industry, Jamaal Mohamed Hassan.

The projects discussed at the forum focus on helping Somali companies access European markets, developing economic and livelihood opportunities in Somalia’s fisheries sector, promoting energy for sustainable growth, and supporting economic and trade development.
Businesses and financial institutions are taking part in dedicated business-to-business meetings, as well as government-to-business discussions, while Somali companies are showcasing investment opportunities and projects they are developing.
The two-day forum is part of the EU-Somalia Investment and Business Forum, with the second day focusing on Somalia’s economic transformation, reforms to the business environment, trade and logistics, the digital economy and access to financing for economic growth.
