Ethiopia, July 31 2026– Ethiopia's Somali Regional State has handed over 10 new homes to low-income families in Shabeeleey town under a government housing programme for vulnerable households.
Regional President Mustafe Mohammed Omar attended the handover ceremony on Wednesday, where beneficiaries received the keys to the homes constructed by Ethiopia's Federal Ministry of Transport and Logistics, according to the Somali Regional State Communication Office.
The regional government said the project cost about $330,000 (45 million birr) and forms part of broader efforts to expand access to housing for economically disadvantaged communities.

Officials said more than 35 homes have already been built in Shabeeleey through projects implemented by the regional government and federal ministries, providing accommodation for families with limited financial means.
The housing programme is intended to improve living standards and expand social protection for vulnerable households while supporting the region's urban development efforts, the government said.
Ethiopia has in recent years expanded government-supported housing initiatives in several regions as part of broader efforts to improve access to affordable housing and basic public services for low-income communities.
