Jigjiga 27 August 2026 - Ethiopia's Somali Region has completed studies on gold resources in three districts to support future mining investment, the regional mining office said.
The studies covered about 34 square kilometres in Moyale, Hudet and Dheka, with geographical coordinates collected as part of the assessment, Mohamed Ali, head of the Somali Region's Mining, Energy and Petroleum Office, said.

The assessment focused on identifying and classifying gold deposits and documenting areas where the mineral may be found, officials said.
"Previously, the office did not have complete data of this kind that could be given to an investor," Ali said. The new information would help identify the type of gold present, the areas covered and the investment requirements.
