ADDIS ABABA, 15 October 2026 The Tigray Defense Forces say they have retaken the town of Abiy Addi in central Tigray, along with two other localities.
In a statement posted on social media, the TDF said that on Wednesday, in an attack on government forces, they "liberated" Abiy Addi, Shewate Higum and Yechila in the Tembien area.
The group said it had destroyed what it called the mercenary forces of the "Prosperity regime", referring to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed's ruling party. The TDF added that in recent days it had carried out attacks at locations of its choosing and seized weapons from government forces.
