Djibouti (Dawan Africa) Ethiopia plans to export natural gas and crude oil from its Somali Regional State through the Djibouti Corridor, following discussions between President Ismail Guelleh and head of Ethiopian Investment Holdings.
Djibouti’s President, Isma’il Omar Guelleh, received Dr. Brook Taye, President and Chief Executive Officer of Ethiopian Investment Holdings, the agency responsible for Ethiopia’s investment portfolio.
According to the Djiboutian News Agency (ADI), Dr. Taye’s visit to Djibouti was linked to plans to expand strategic partnership between Ethiopia, Dangote Group and Djibouti in the energy sector.
The proposal presented to President Guelleh consists of two phases. The first phase involves the construction of a pipeline to transport refined petroleum products from the Port of Djibouti to Daweleh in Ethiopia.

The second phase focuses on building pipelines, allowing resources from oil and gas fields in the Somali Regional State to be exported to international markets through the Djibouti Corridor.
President Guelleh welcomed the project and also outlined a framework for implementing the new strategic partnership between the two countries, according to the ADI report.
The meeting was attended by Ethiopia’s Ambassador to Djibouti, Legesse Tulu and Djibouti’s Energy Minister, Djama Mohamed Hassan among others.
If implemented, the project could strengthen Djibouti’s role as a trade and energy corridor in the Horn of Africa, while providing Ethiopia with a key route to deliver its oil and gas to global markets.
