Copenhagen, September 21, 2026 - Eritrea’s Dawit Seare won the men’s 5 km title at the World Athletics Road Running Championships in Copenhagen on Saturday, setting a national record of 12 minutes and 56 seconds.
Seare produced a late surge to beat Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen, who took silver in a Norwegian-record 12:59.
Eritrea secured a second medal when Saymon Amanuel finished third in a personal-best time of 13:00.

Australia’s Ky Robinson and Uganda’s Keneth Kiprop finished fourth and fifth, respectively, both recording 13:04.
The result gave Eritrea two places on the podium and Seare his first world road-running title. He entered the competition as the African 5,000-metre champion.
The race formed part of the World Athletics Road Running Championships, held in Copenhagen on Sept. 19 and 20.
