Equity Foundation Equips 4,949 Scholars With Leadership and Career Skills

Kenya, 13 August 2026 - Equity Group Foundation has equipped 4,949 beneficiaries of the Wings to Fly and Elimu Scholarship programmes with leadership, life skills and career-readiness competencies to prepare them for the changing world of work.

The scholars attended the Equity Group Foundation’s 17th Annual Education and Leadership Congress, held under the theme “Lead, Solve, Sustain: Turning Challenges into Solutions.”

The Congress challenged the scholars to think critically, embrace technology and develop solutions to real-world challenges while upholding integrity in their leadership.

Speaking during the event, Equity Group Foundation Executive Chairman and Equity Group Holdings Managing Director and CEO Dr James Mwangi said access to an opportunity was only the beginning, urging the scholars to make responsible choices and develop skills that would enable them to create meaningful impact.

“An opportunity can open a door, but it is the choices you make, the skills you develop and the problems you choose to solve that determine what you do with that opportunity,” Dr Mwangi told the scholars.

The forum brought together leaders and partners, including German Ambassador to Kenya Sebastian Groth and Kikuyu Sub-County Director of Education Jeremiah Kipaiyu.

Ambassador Groth underscored the importance of investing in young people, describing such investment as a commitment to Kenya’s human potential and future.

Mr Kipaiyu reaffirmed the Ministry of Education’s partnership with Equity Group Foundation in expanding access to education and creating opportunities for learners.

According to Equity Group Foundation, a total of 60,009 young people have so far benefited from the Wings to Fly and Elimu Scholarship programmes.

The Foundation said the programmes continue to nurture young people to lead with integrity, solve challenges with courage and creativity, and sustain positive impact in their communities and beyond.
