Gabiley (Dawan Africa) – The President of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Cirro, has announced that electricity prices in Gabiley city will be officially reduced starting November 1, 2025, as part of efforts to ease the cost of living for citizens.
The price per watt, previously 0.73, will be lowered to 0.59. Cirro emphasized that his administration prioritizes affordable access to electricity, noting that urban life is difficult without reliable power.
Speaking during a local visit, the President acknowledged that previous investment in the energy sector was insufficient but said his government has held discussions with electricity companies, which themselves face challenges due to high fuel costs.
“It is our commitment that citizens should have access to cheap electricity. We have engaged with power companies to share the burden. I thank the Gabiley electricity company, with whom we agreed that, starting November 1, the price per watt will be reduced to 0.59,” Cirro said.
In recent days, the President has been in Gabiley meeting local authorities, residents, and utility providers, while also inaugurating several development projects.
