SOMALIA (Dawan Africa) – Somalia’s National Independent Electoral Commission (NIEC) has released the official timetable for the election of the Speaker of the South West State House of Representatives and the State President, in line with national electoral laws.
According to the schedule, the process for electing the leadership of the House of Representatives will begin with the publication of the list of members on May 25, followed by preparations for voting members from May 26 to 29. Members of parliament are scheduled to be sworn in on May 30.
The submission period for candidates seeking the positions of Speaker and Deputy Speaker will take place on May 31, while the official candidate list will be published on June 1. Candidate speeches and the election of the parliamentary leadership are scheduled for June 2.

For the presidential election, the submission of candidates will run from June 4 to 6, followed by publication of the candidate list on June 7. Candidate speeches are scheduled for June 8, while the presidential election will take place on June 10.
The commission said the timetable forms part of broader efforts to ensure the elections are conducted smoothly and in accordance with legal procedures, with equal opportunity for all candidates and members of parliament to participate in the process.
NIEC also urged candidates and lawmakers to comply with electoral procedures and codes of conduct to help ensure a free, fair and credible election.
