Egypt, July 20 2026 – Egypt reaffirmed its support for Somalia's sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity during talks on Sunday between Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Somali counterpart Abdisalam Abdi Ali, as both countries pledged to deepen cooperation on security, trade and development.
According to Egypt's Foreign Ministry, Abdelatty reaffirmed Cairo's rejection of any unilateral actions that undermine Somalia's sovereignty or territorial integrity, reiterating Egypt's longstanding position on the issue.
The ministers discussed expanding strategic cooperation in areas including security, trade, infrastructure, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, agriculture and food production.
Egypt also condemned Somaliland's diplomatic office in Jerusalem, saying such a move would violate international law and international resolutions governing the status of the city.
Abdelatty called on Somalia to continue efforts to secure the release of Egyptian fishermen who were abducted off the Somali coast and to ensure their safety, the ministry said.

He said Egypt would continue supporting Somalia's state-building efforts and security institutions, including through training programmes offered by Egyptian institutions, and reiterated Cairo's backing for international efforts to stabilise Somalia.
The Egyptian minister also called for sustainable and adequate funding for the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) to enable it to carry out its mandate.
For his part, Abdisalam thanked Egypt for its continued political, development and security support, praising Cairo's consistent backing for Somalia's sovereignty and pledging to strengthen bilateral cooperation on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Egypt has expanded its engagement with Somalia over the past two years through increased diplomatic, security and economic cooperation, while repeatedly expressing support for Mogadishu's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
