MOGADISHU, 4 October 2026 Egypt has confirmed that President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi will attend a four-way consultative summit with the leaders of Eritrea, Somalia and Sudan in the coastal city of New Alamein on Sunday.
The Egyptian presidency said the Alamein Consultative Summit would bring together the four leaders to discuss and coordinate on regional issues of common interest.
The meeting will bring together Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Sudan's Sovereign Council Chairman Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
The summit comes amid heightened regional tensions after Ethiopia and Eritrea severed diplomatic relations, while Egypt and Ethiopia have also exchanged diplomatic expulsions.

Fighting also resumed in Ethiopia in September between federal forces and an opposition alliance led by the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF), with hostilities spreading into parts of southern Tigray and the neighbouring Afar region.
The four-way summit is being held alongside the eighth African Union Mid-Year Coordination Meeting, which Egypt is hosting in New Alamein.
The Egyptian presidency said the summit aims to strengthen consultation and coordination among the four countries on regional issues, without providing further details on the agenda.
