Kenya, 3 July 2026 - The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested three traffic police officers attached to Webuye Police Station over allegations of soliciting bribes from motorists at a roadblock along the Webuye–Kitale Road.
In a statement released on Friday, the commission said the arrests followed investigations launched after receiving numerous complaints from members of the public, including operators of public service vehicles and heavy commercial trucks, alleging widespread extortion by officers manning the roadblock.
According to the EACC, a targeted surveillance operation confirmed that the officers were allegedly demanding and receiving bribes from motorists entering and leaving the border town without carrying out vehicle inspections or enforcing traffic regulations.
The arrested officers were identified as Corporal Kipyego Metto,Police Constable Ben Kiptoo Maswai, and Police Constable Alex Kidui Makee.
The three were arrested on Thursday and taken to the EACC Western Regional Office in Bungoma for processing as investigations continue.

The anti-graft agency said the operation forms part of its ongoing nationwide campaign to eliminate bribery and corruption at public service delivery points.
"The Commission is scaling up intelligence gathering and surveillance operations targeting essential public services and sectors that are prone to bribery," the EACC said in a statement.
The commission added that the crackdown is intended to improve access to quality public services by ensuring government officers carry out their duties with integrity and accountability.
The latest arrests come amid intensified efforts by the EACC to curb corruption within law enforcement and other public institutions, following growing public concern over bribery and extortion on Kenyan roads.
