Kenya, August 24 ,2026 - The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has approved murder charges against politician Rose Mbithe Ndeti and her two children over the killing of psychiatrist Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso.
The prosecution, led by Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Jalson Makori, told the court on Monday that the DPP had registered a murder case at the Nairobi High Court against Ms Ndeti, her son, advocate Chris Mulwa, and daughter, advocate Angela Mulwa.
The decision came after preliminary investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) into the circumstances surrounding Dr Mutiso’s death.
Following the decision to charge the three suspects, the prosecution withdrew an application seeking additional days to detain Ms Angela Mulwa as investigators completed their probe.
Ms Ndeti and Mr Mulwa have also been in custody as they assisted investigators with the inquiry.
Dr Mutiso, a psychiatrist and former director of the African Institute of Mental and Brain Health, was fatally shot in Nairobi on July 29.
Investigators established that the doctor was involved in a land dispute that was pending before a court in Machakos.
The court further heard that before her death, Dr Mutiso had reported an incident in which two armed men riding a motorcycle confronted her while she was driving in Nairobi.
The attackers allegedly pointed a firearm at her, but she managed to escape and reported the incident at Kilimani Police Station.
The DPP’s decision to charge the three suspects follows the conclusion of preliminary investigations and the gathering of evidence that prosecutors say links them to the alleged murder.
The suspects are expected to be formally arraigned before the High Court to face the murder charges.
