MOGADISHU, 13 October 2026 Somalia's State Minister for Foreign Affairs Ali Balcad has confirmed to Dawan that a document circulating on social media as a statement from the Foreign Ministry is fake.
The document, dated Oct. 13, 2026, used the emblem of the Federal Republic and the name of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It was formatted to resemble an official statement addressing remarks attributed to U.S. President Donald Trump.

It claimed Trump had described Somaliland as a country separate from Somalia during a rally in Ohio on Oct. 12, and that the remarks had raised concerns within the federal government.
It also claimed Somalia had called on the United States to respect the country's unity and internationally recognised borders and to refrain from actions that could undermine its territorial integrity.
Balcad's confirmation establishes that the document was not issued by the ministry and should not be regarded as an official statement of the government's position.
The authenticity of the document is separate from whether Trump made the remarks attributed to him, which Balcad's confirmation did not establish.
