DJIBOUTI (Dawan) – September 6, 2026 President Ismail Omar Guelleh has warned against any external interference in Djibouti’s internal affairs, saying the country’s sovereignty and independence in decision-making are not open to compromise.
Guelleh made the remarks on Saturday in Ali Sabieh, where a three-day political meeting of the People’s Rally for Progress (RPP) came to an end.
The president said Djibouti is focused on safeguarding its independent decision-making, strengthening domestic security and preserving social cohesion amid growing political and security competition in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region.

He said national unity and social cohesion remain among the country’s strongest defenses against external pressure and emerging challenges.
“Djibouti’s internal affairs belong to the people and government of Djibouti. We will not allow anyone to interfere in or intrude upon our domestic affairs,” Guelleh said.
The president also said his government would continue investing in education, skills and the capabilities of Djibouti’s citizens, with the aim of building a more self-reliant country capable of responding independently to future challenges.
