EL ALAMEIN, Egypt, 5 October 2026 Djibouti has called for African commitments to be translated into tangible results, urging stronger coordination between the African Union and regional organizations.
The call was made by Foreign Minister and government spokesman Abdoulkader Houssein Omar at the eighth AU coordination meeting in El Alamein on Sunday, which brought together AU member states, regional economic communities and other regional organizations.
Omar, who represented President Ismail Omar Guelleh, said commitments needed to produce concrete and visible results to accelerate continental integration and implementation of the AU’s Agenda 2063.
On peace and security, he said the issues remained a top priority for the Horn of Africa and called for stronger conflict prevention, mediation and dialogue.

On the economic front, he called for faster regional integration through easier trade and movement of people, the development of regional trade corridors and greater investment.
He also urged stronger African capacity to respond to climate and humanitarian challenges, including improved early-warning and response systems and greater cooperation on water, agriculture, sanitation and sustainable management of natural resources.
Omar called for the full participation of women and young people in decision-making, development and peacebuilding.
He said responsibilities assigned to regional economic communities and other regional mechanisms needed to be matched with the resources and means required to carry them out.
