Djibouti, 17 August 2026 – Djibouti's Deputy Minister in charge of Decentralization Omar Houssein Omar met UNHCR's mission chief in Djibouti Alexandre Coissac on Sunday for talks on local development and human mobility, according to the Djibouti News Agency (ADI).
The meeting was part of efforts to strengthen cooperation between the government and the UN agency, with a focus on supporting local authorities and development initiatives in different parts of the country, ADI reported.
The two sides discussed prospects for further cooperation and identified potential partnership opportunities aimed at supporting local communities and promoting more balanced development across Djibouti's regions, the agency said.

Omar stressed the importance of close cooperation with international partners in supporting the government's efforts on decentralization and local development, according to ADI.
The meeting also focused on strengthening support for local authorities as they work to address development needs in their respective areas.
