DJIBOUTI, July 28 2026 – Djibouti and Türkiye have agreed to expand cooperation on religious affairs, waqf management and cultural heritage following talks in Ankara between Minister of Muslim Affairs and Waqf Assets Moumin Hassan Barreh and Turkish officials, Djibouti's state news agency ADI reported on Monday.
The discussions, held during an official visit at the invitation of Türkiye's Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet), focused on sharing expertise, developing joint projects and strengthening institutional cooperation in the management of religious affairs and waqf assets, ADI said.
The two sides also discussed preserving Islamic religious heritage, including Djibouti's Sultan Abdulhamid II Grand Mosque, which they described as a symbol of the friendship between the two countries.

As part of the visit, the Djiboutian delegation met officials from Türkiye's General Directorate of Foundations and the Türkiye Diyanet Foundation to review programmes on education, humanitarian assistance, social welfare and international cooperation.
At the conclusion of the talks, Djibouti and Türkiye agreed to continue consultations to identify new areas of cooperation and deepen their partnership in support of human development and shared values, according to ADI.
The delegation also visited Türkiye's National Library in Ankara, where Minister Barreh announced plans to send books and historical documents on Djibouti to expand the country's representation in the library's international collections and promote Djibouti's cultural heritage among researchers and visitors.
