Djibouti(Mogadishu24)-Djibouti's Foreign Minister, Mahmoud Yousuf Ali, highlighted the country's unique relationship with China in an interview this week, emphasizing Djibouti as the only African nation hosting a Chinese naval base.
"The two countries are currently renegotiating a long-term military cooperation agreement focused on counterterrorism and anti-piracy efforts", Yousuf said.
Speaking on the China-Africa Forum (FOCAC), Ali discussed Africa’s strategic demands for partnership with China, including infrastructure development, industrialization, and digital economies.
Djibouti, a key player in China's Belt and Road initiative, has seen significant projects like the Doraleh Port, the Djibouti-Addis Ababa railway, and other infrastructure developments.
Ali emphasized the $50 billion action plan under FOCAC, which will enhance Africa’s agriculture, education, and healthcare, while Djibouti continues to benefit from this comprehensive and long-term partnership with China.
