DJIBOUTI, 19 October 2026 The Djiboutian government has announced the retirement of 379 public-sector employees, including 281 civil servants and 98 contract-based employees, as part of efforts to renew its public administration.
Labour Minister Yonis Ali Guedi, who is also responsible for formalisation and social protection, described retirement as a right that must be recognised after years of service to the state and the nation. He commended the departing employees for their contributions to public institutions.
The minister said the move was part of broader efforts to prepare the next generation of public employees and create opportunities for young Djiboutians, while strengthening skills and modernising government services.
Speaking on behalf of President Ismail Omar Guelleh, Guedi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building a modern, efficient and equitable administration that protects the rights of retiring employees while renewing its workforce.
He said recruitment across public services is conducted through competitive examinations in accordance with regulations, with the aim of ensuring equal opportunities, transparency and merit-based selection.
The retirements follow two decisions issued by the Ministry of Labour on 15 October concerning civil servants and contract-based employees reaching statutory retirement age.
