Djibouti, 20 September 2025 – The National Office for Water and Sanitation of Djibouti (ONEAD) carried out urgent operations across Djibouti City to reopen flooded roads that had been rendered inaccessible following a heavy downpour on Friday.
The extensive operation included the use of essential water-removal equipment and large water tank vehicles to control the flooding and mitigate its impact on traffic and residents.
ONEAD officials conducted on-site inspections to assess water levels and plan the necessary response measures. Office staff were put on high alert to respond to the immediate needs arising from the floods and potential future risks.
The inspection was carried out by various officials, including the Deputy Mayor of the 3rd District of Djibouti City and ONEAD personnel, who ensured coordinated action.
Heybeh Xareed Gadiid, Deputy Mayor of the 3rd District, said:
“The rainfall today caused significant flooding in Djibouti City, but fortunately no major damage occurred.”
“Office staff and police worked together to efficiently manage the flooded streets. The blocked roads have been reopened, and city traffic is now flowing,” Haybeh added.
ONEAD was praised for effectively mobilizing its staff and equipment to address the flash floods, ensuring residents were minimally affected.
