Djibouti, 21 September 2026 Djibouti has officially opened the rehabilitated Doudoubalala-Galblalou section of National Highway No. 1, the Djiboutian Information Agency reported Sunday.
Infrastructure and Equipment Minister Said Nouh Hassan inaugurated the section after the completion of rehabilitation work carried out in two phases.
The project covered 10 km (6.2 miles) of road, with a width of 10 meters, and included the construction of 35 drainage structures to improve water flow and protect the highway.
Authorities said the rehabilitation would improve traffic flow and road safety while making the corridor more reliable for the movement of people and goods.

The project was financed by DPCR with support from Salaam African Bank and implemented by local contractor Al-Nasri Group. Djibouti's Central Laboratory for Building and Equipment conducted compliance testing and quality-control inspections.
The work forms part of government efforts to maintain national transport infrastructure and improve connections between Djibouti and neighboring countries. Additional rehabilitation projects are underway across the country's road network, according to the agency.
Hassan said rebuilding road infrastructure was only the first step and called for regular maintenance and responsible use to preserve it.
He urged drivers and transport operators to comply with speed limits, vehicle-weight restrictions and other safety requirements, saying responsibility for protecting the roads was shared by government agencies, transport professionals, road users and nearby communities.
