DJIBOUTI, Oct 7, 2026 Djibouti police have arrested a manager of a money transfer agency accused of embezzling 3.3 million Djiboutian francs, equivalent to about $18,570, from a branch in the southern city of Ali-Sabieh, the National Police said on Wednesday.
The owner of the money transfer agency reported the alleged embezzlement to police in Ali-Sabieh on Sept. 19, saying the manager had fled after leaving the agency's key at his home, according to a police statement.
Police officers from the Ali-Sabieh detachment, supported by an intervention unit, went to the agency to investigate and subsequently launched a search for the suspect.
Police said the man moved frequently across the country in an apparent effort to evade arrest, prompting officers from the central police station's BEDJ unit and Ali-Sabieh police to continue tracking him.
