Djibouti, 24 October 2025 – Djibouti has concluded its inaugural ‘Week of Sports and Health’, an initiative spanning schools nationwide, and announced to make the programme an annual fixture.
Jointly organized by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health, the program aimed to establish physical fitness and public health awareness as core components of the nation’s education system.
Throughout the seven days, schools across Djibouti served as temporary health and fitness venues; conducting medical checkups and organizing health education and physical activities.
Djibouti’s Minister of Health expressed satisfaction with the initiative, encouraging students to engage in regular exercises for their well-being.
“I advise every individual to perform physical exercise two or three times a week. We especially encourage students to make physical activity part of their weekly routine,” he added.
Education Minister Mustafa Mohamed Mahmoud echoed the sentiments, noting that the initiative will be included in the school calendar of activities.
“We want to make this week an annual event in all primary, intermediate, and secondary schools,” he noted, underscoring the government’s belief that the initiative will improve public health outcomes and foster a culture of physical activity among the nation’s youth.
