Djibouti, 21 August 2026 A religious gathering jointly organized by the Ministry of Youth and Culture and the Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Endowments brought together young people, scholars and parents to discuss opportunities and challenges associated with social media.
Minister of Youth and Culture Fardowsa Muse Ege addressed attendees on the importance of avoiding harmful and irresponsible use of social media and being aware of content that could negatively affect their lives and future.
Religious scholars, young people and parents also discussed the growing influence of social media and the need to help younger generations navigate the digital environment responsibly.

Speakers said social media should not necessarily be viewed as something young people must completely avoid. Instead, they encouraged youth to use digital platforms for education, communication and skills development, while remaining cautious about harmful or inappropriate content.
The gathering also highlighted the importance of protecting religious values, cultural traditions, social cohesion and national identity.
Parents attending the event were encouraged to play a greater role in guiding young people and helping them develop healthier and more responsible digital habits.
