HONG KONG, September 26, 2026Djibouti and Hong Kong officials discussed possible cooperation on sea-air freight transfers and green port corridors during a meeting on Thursday, Djibouti’s state news agency ADI reported.
Djibouti’s Economy and Finance Minister Ilyas Moussa Dawaleh met Hong Kong Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan during an official visit. Their talks focused in part on Djibouti’s planned international cargo airport, which Djibouti aims to use to connect trade routes between Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

The airport’s financing has yet to be finalised, ADI reported after a meeting with potential funding partners in Djibouti earlier this month. Djibouti, France and Japan were among the partners identified at that meeting, with talks continuing with other potential backers.
During his Hong Kong visit, Dawaleh also held talks with financial officials and a Bank of China executive about investment opportunities, financing for a proposed Djibouti financial district and training for local finance staff, ADI reported. Neither report announced a signed sea-air freight agreement or a timetable for the airport.
