Djibouti(Mogadishu24)-The Prime Minister of Djibouti, Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed, received the ambassador of Japan to Djibouti, Hara Keiichi, at his office on Monday in the presence of the head of cabinet, Mr. Ali Sillaye Abdallah.
The discussions focused on sustaining cooperation with Japan, including recent exchanges with the Japanese Prime Minister during TICAD 8 in Tunisia, and efforts to continue coordinating Public Development Assistance (ODA) through the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The two leaders also discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in key areas, including trade, investment, health, and technology. Additional discussions involved the construction of ports, desalination of seawater, and formalizing a feasibility study to generate renewable energy from hydro wind speed at the dead end of Ghoubbet-el-Kharab.
Ambassador Hara Keiichi expressed appreciation to the Djiboutian Prime Minister and other government officials for their warm welcome.
He reiterated the Japanese government's commitment to fostering diplomatic ties between the two nations and focusing on areas of mutual interest.
The Japanese ambassador pledged constant support and close collaboration of the Japanese military in Djibouti to combat piracy along coasts and safeguard the sea in the Horn of Africa. This move is considered crucial for regional stability in the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea, aiming to guarantee the security of maritime trade routes.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed Djibouti’s commitment to optimizing bilateral trade to benefit from Japanese expertise in hydroponic agriculture.
Diplomatic relations between Djibouti and Japan began in 1978, marking the 45th anniversary of strong and mutual diplomatic ties between the two nations.
Ambassador Hara Keiichi, appointed as the ambassador of Japan to Djibouti in November 2023, brings rich experience in global issues of international relations, having served in various capacities, including as First Secretary of the Japanese Embassy in France and Djibouti in 2004-2005.
