Somalia, January 22, 2026 Somali National Army’s elite troops, supported by Jubaland security forces and international partners, killed more than 130 Al-Shabaab militants in Kudhaa town, Lower Jubba, the Ministry of Defence said on Thursday.
The ministry said in statement the joint operation, which lasted over 24 hours, successfully repelled an Al-Shabaab attack and inflicted heavy losses on the militant group. Dozens of additional fighters were reported wounded.
Vehicles and weapons abandoned by the fleeing militants were also seized by Somali and Jubaland forces.

“Security in Kudhaa and surrounding areas is fully under the control of Somali National Army commandos and Jubaland forces,” the ministry said, noting that troops remain on high alert to prevent further threats.
The ministry praised the bravery and coordination of the forces and said operations against Al-Shabaab will continue until lasting peace and security are achieved nationwide.
