Kenya, July 10 ,2026 - Two suspects have been arrested after detectives intercepted a trailer transporting cannabis worth an estimated Sh24.7 million in Voi, Taita Taveta County, in one of the latest major anti-narcotics operations.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) acted on intelligence to intercept the Scania truck towing a trailer within Voi Township.
The operation was conducted jointly by detectives from DCI ANU Mombasa and DCI ANU Voi, with support from officers attached to Voi Police Station.
A search of the trailer led to the recovery of 11 gunny bags containing cannabis weighing a total of 825 kilograms.
Police arrested the truck driver, identified as Fredrick Otieno Ogode,together with his alleged accomplice, Edwin Ochieng Otieno at the scene.
The suspects were taken into police custody alongside the truck and the seized narcotics as detectives commenced processing the case ahead of their arraignment in court.
According to the DCI, the seized cannabis has an estimated street value of Sh24.7 million.
The latest seizure underscores ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to dismantle drug trafficking networks operating along key transport corridors in the country. Authorities said investigations are continuing to establish the origin and intended destination of the consignment as well as identify other individuals linked to the trafficking operation.
