Kenya, 4 April 2026 - The family of Kenya Ports Authority Chief Executive Officer Capt. William Ruto is in mourning after his daughter perished in a grisly accident on Friday evening.
In a notice to staff on Saturday, KPA stated that Capt. Ruto was travelling with his family when the accident occurred along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway.
“Capt. Ruto and the rest of his family are currently in stable condition and under close medical supervision. We remain hopeful for their full and swift recovery,” the notice from KPA’s Corporate Communication Division stated.
KPA further said it is fully cooperating with the relevant authorities as they establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Authority has urged the public and the media to respect the family’s privacy as they nurse their injuries and mourn the loss of their daughter.
KPA thanked Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir and his Taita Taveta counterpart Andrew Mwadime for their swift assistance and support following the accident.
Elsewhere, ten people have been confirmed dead following a road accident involving a trailer and a 14-seater matatu at Kariandusi near Gilgil along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.
The accident occurred on Saturday morning after a speeding matatu lost control and rammed into a stalled trailer, killing ten people on the spot and leaving others injured.

Gilgil Sub-County Police Commander Winston Mwakio confirmed the incident.
“Police officers are clearing the wreckage on the road,” Mwakio said.
