Jubada Hoose (Dawan Africa) – The elite Danab unit of the Somali National Army has carried out a military operation in Harboole, a strategic locality in the Lower Jubba region, targeting senior members of the Al-Shabaab militant group.
According to a statement from Somalia’s Ministry of Defence on July 18, 2025, the operation resulted in the death of several high-ranking Al-Shabaab operatives, who had long been on the radar of Somali security forces. These individuals were reportedly responsible for orchestrating multiple security threats both within Somalia and in neighboring regions.
The statement further detailed that the operation led to the seizure of various weapons and military equipment, which had been used by the militants in their attacks. "During the operation, the forces captured weapons and military supplies that the Khawarij group had been using to harm the Somali people," the Ministry of Defence confirmed.
While the Ministry did not release the names of the killed militants, it affirmed that this mission was part of a broader and ongoing effort by the Federal Government of Somalia to eliminate Al-Shabaab from its remaining strongholds in the south and central regions of the country.
The Harboole operation represents another significant step in Somalia's sustained offensive against the Al-Shabaab insurgents, which remains a critical focus of the government's security strategy.
